Chicago - Cobra Electronics reports its Cobra iRadar Detection System has been recognized by the Industrial Designer Society of America (IDSA) with a 2011 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA).  

cobraThis is the seventh award for design and innovation bestowed upon Cobra iRadar since its market introduction in the fourth quarter of 2010, the company said.

Cobra received the Silver IDEA award in the Communication Tools category, which included entrants in areas such as telephones, VoIP phones, cell phones, smartphones, PDAs, navigation devices, headsets, accessories and more.  

The IDEA 2011 judging was based on a diverse set of industrial design excellence criteria, including innovation, benefit to the user, social responsibility, client benefit, visual appeal, design aesthetic and more.

Cobra iRadar is the first detection system to combine radar, laser, and speed and red-light camera detection technology for iPhone and Android smartphones, the company said. It consists of the dash-mounted Cobra iRadar detector unit combined with the free Cobra iRadar app. Cobra iRadar pairs the detector with the smartphone using Bluetooth, and together allows users to view radar alerts, control settings, log alert history and be alerted to upcoming speed and red-light cameras.

Cobra iRadar for iPhone and Cobra iRadar for Android are currently available at traditional and online retailers nationwide for $129.

The Cobra iRadar app for iPhone is available free via the Apple App Store, and the Cobra iRadar app for Android is available free to Android users via the Android Market.
