LG Electronics is launching its first three U.S.-market laptops.
The Gram-series Windows 10 laptops each weigh 2.16 pounds, are priced from $899 to $1,399 for 13- and 14-inch models, and are available at Microsoft stores across the country and at MicrosoftStore.com and Amazon.com. They lack touchscreens.
The 14-inch Gram 14, available in two versions, is among the lightest laptops in the 14-inch category, weighing only 2.16 pounds, or less than the MacBook Air, the company said. The body is made of carbon-lithium and carbon-magnesium, both used in spacecraft and race cars, to be durable while maintaining light weight, the company added.
Although laptops represent “an extremely competitive category,” said David VanderWaal, LG Electronics USA marketing VP, the company is “confident consumers will respond well” to the products.
The three models are the:
- LG Gram 13, a 13-inch model in white with fifth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage at a suggested $899;
- LG Gram 14, a 14-inch model in gold with fifth-gen Intel Core i5, 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage at $999; and
- LG Gram 14, a 14-inch model in gold with fifth-gen Intel Core i7, 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage at $1,399.
All are Microsoft Signature Edition laptops, which are free of installed “junkware,” feature performance tuning, and come with “fully” virus-protected system, LG said.
The trio comes with Microsoft Cortana and Edge, USB 3.0, MicroUSB, MicroSD slot and HDMI port.
The company’s instant-boot feature starts up the operating system as soon as the user opens the display, whether the computer had been powered off or in sleep/hibernation mode.
Battery life is up to 7.5 hours. The FullHD displays feature 16:9 aspect ratio, in-plane switching (IPS) technology, and a Reader Mode that reduces blue light for more comfortable reading over extended periods of time. A high-grade digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is included to enhance sound quality.
