First TVs Get Netflix-Recommended Certification

Los Gatos, Calif. — Some of the first TVs designated as Netflix Recommended TVs consist of 11 models in five series in LG’s spring lineup and all 11 first-half models of TCL Roku TV in three series, Netflix announced.

At International CES, Netflix said it expected Sony, LG, Sharp, Vizio and Roku TV suppliers TCL, Hisense and Insignia to be among the first smart-TV makers delivering models designated by Netflix to receive a Netflix Recommended TV logo.

Netflix Recommended TVs undergo an evaluation program to determine if they offer better performance, easier app access and new smart-TV features. Criteria include instant-on capability to display apps, as well as a prominently displayed Netflix app, as soon as the TV is turned on; a dedicated Netflix button on the TV’s remote; the latest version of Netflix; fast app launch and resume; and fast playback start.

The TCL TVs consist of all 11 models in the 3700 entry-level series, 3800 Design series and top-end 3850 Decorator series. All models but three 32-inch 720p TVs feature 1080p resolution.

LG’s models consist of the two 4K Ultra HD models in the EG9600 Art Slim curved 4K UHD OLED smart-TV series and the UF9500, UF8500, UF7700 and UF7600 UHD LED series. LG promises more Netflix-recommended TVs in the second half.

The Netflix Recommended LG TVs consist of a 65-inch model and 55-inch model in the EG9600 series of UHD OLED TVs; a 65-inch UF9500-series Prime USD UHD LED TV with wide-color-gamut technology; a 60-inch model and 65-inch model in the UF8500 series of 3D UHD LED TVs; three models in the UF7700 series of UHD LED TV at 60, 65 and 70 inches; and three UF7600 series UHD LED TVs at 43, 49, and 55 inches.

All of the new models include LG’s WebOS 2.0, an updated version of the company’s smart-TV platform.
