SanDisk Leverages iPhone 7 Launch For Apple-Ready iXpand

SanDisk is tapping last month’s iPhone 7 launch to tout its next-generation iXpand flash drive.

The storage device, introduced in April, features a flexible Lightning connector and redesigned app that allows iPhone and iPad users to offload their photos, videos and music, freeing up as much as 128GB of space on their tablets and smartphones.

The thumb drive also has a newly added USB 3.0 connector to quickly transfer files from Apple devices to PCs.

“With the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus now official, we know consumers are pouring over every detail and feature in their next purchase,” a SanDisk spokesman said. “But it’s also a time when consumers start to wonder where, and how, to move all their photos and videos off of their old devices.”

While a formal sales assessment will have to await Apple’s fourth-quarter earnings report on Oct. 25, early indications suggest that SanDisk is riding a winner in the latest iteration iPhones. Touchpanel suppliers said the company has increased its orders for iPhone 7 components by as much as 30 percent over projections; T-Mobile said the smartphones “shattered” pre-order records; and Sprint reported that pre-orders nearly quadrupled from last year.

The iPhone 7 Plus may also receive an added lift following the recall and discontinuation of its chief rival, Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 phablet.

SanDisk’s iXpand flash drives are available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities, with suggested retails of $50, $70, $90 and $130, respectively.
