OnePlus: My Phone’s Better Than Your Phone, Samsung

OnePlus, the upstart Oppo offshoot that made a splash with its debut smartphone last year, has thrown down the mobile gauntlet, again.

The Chinese vendor, which developed a rabid fan base around its high-end specs, disruptive pricing and guerilla marketing, is offering 50 free OnePlus 2 phones, its step-up sophomore model, in exchange for Samsung’s latest flagships.

Its #TakeTheEdgeOff trade-in promotion reinforces the company’s claim of “flagship killer,” and improves upon last year’s “Smash the Past” contest in which fans were invited to record the creative destruction of their tier-one phones.

This time, OnePlus will be donating the used Galaxy S6 and Note 5 models it receives to Hope Phones, which recycles handsets to fund healthcare programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“We’re confident that we’ve created one of the most fantastic smartphones on the market today,” the company boasts. “So confident that we’re willing to put our money where our mouths are.”

Entries will be accepted through Oct. 18.
