Magellan continues to diversify its consumer automotive lineup beyond portable navigation devices (PNDs), planning a CES launch of four new MiVue dash cams.
The company entered the stand-alone dash cam market in August 2015 with its first four models, which followed the 2014 launch of the company’s first PND with integrated dash cam.
Select new models add such new features as lane departure and collision avoidance warning, dual cameras and wide-angle lenses. The new models will be in stores in the second quarter with suggested retails starting at $109.
The MiVue 320, 420, 430 and 450D will be displayed at CES 2016 in the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall MP25441.
The company’s four current models are priced at $149 to $249.
All four new models feature GPS tracking and a three-axis sensor, which detects sudden changes in motion to protect a video file from being overwritten. Parking mode detects an impact while the car is parked and wakes up the dash cam to record the event. An impact sensor records the direction and magnitude of a collision.
The dash cams’ cameras feature automatic day/night adjustment, and a 140-degree wide-angle lens provides a wide view to record the entire width of a street. Users can browse recorded videos on the devices’ display for post-accident analysis and shared on social-media sites.
The MiVue 320 features a 2-inch 4:3 screen, 1080p recording at 30 fps, and SDXC memory-card slot to bring storage to 128GB.
The MiVue 420 steps up to add lane-departure warning, front-collision avoidance warning, 1296p Ultra HD recording, maximum f/1.8, aperture, and 2.7-inch 16:9 touchscreen.
The MiVue 430 adds 1080p Sony high-def camera with f/1.8 aperture.
The MiVue 450D steps up to two cameras to ensure an event is captured, with the bottom camera rotating 330 degrees to monitor what’s going on in the back seat or behind the car. It also adds two 120-degree lenses to provide a full 240-degree view, 1440p Ultra HD recording with f/2.0 aperture, and integrated Wi-Fi to send videos to a smartphone for back up.
