Ford Sync Systems Access Amazon Cloud Player On Android Phones

2/13/2013 05:04:00 AM Eastern

Seattle — Ford vehicles equipped with OEM Sync systems can now access Amazon’s Cloud Player through a wirelessly connected Android smartphone running the Amazon MP3 app.

The app is now AppLink-enabled for Ford Sync voice-control systems, letting users access their Cloud-stored music via the factory sound system’s controls or via Sync’s voice control. The app also lets users play back music stored on an Android phone through the stock sound system.

The development heightens competition with the car audio aftermarket. The partnership was announced during International CES in January.

Ford Applink-equipped vehicles include the 2013 Ford Fiesta, Mustang, Focus, E-Series, C-MAX Hybrid, Expedition, Fusion, F-150 and Super Duty models.

Amazon’s Cloud Player is accessible through PCs and, since December, through Roku and Samsung home entertainment products. Last August, Amazon’s Cloud Player became available through Sonos’ wireless multi-room-audio products. Last June, Amazon launched a Cloud Player app for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Cloud Player stores music purchased from Amazon in the Cloud, and, last July, Amazon added scan and match technology that lets consumers import music into Amazon Cloud Player from their iTunes and Windows Media Player libraries if the songs match those in Amazon’s catalog.

The Amazon MP3 Store offers more than 22 million songs, with albums starting at $5.
