model in its Rebel digital SLR-camera line and four PowerShot compact digital
The new top-end EOS Rebel T2i d-SLR camera features: an 18-megapixel
CMOS sensor, 3.7 fps still shooting, an ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to
12,800), a 63-zone Dual Layer Metering System, 3-inch 1.04 million dot LCD
screen with a 3:2 widescreen aspect ratio and Canon's DIGIC 4 Imaging
For video, the T2i captures clips in up to Full HD 1080p resolution
with manual exposure control, selectable frame rates and a new external
For maximum storage capacity the new EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR
camera is the first EOS model to support new SDXC memory cards. Other staple
features include Live View, a built-in pop-up flash, and the EOS integrated cleaning
system, as well as compatibility with Canon EX-series Speedlites and Canon EF
and EF-S lenses.
It is also compatible with Canon's new BG-E8 battery grip and new
RC-6 wireless remote control for both still images and video capture.
The camera will ship to retail starting in March at a $799
estimated retail for the body only. A kit including the camera and a Canon EF-S
18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens will carry an $899 estimate retail.
Video resolution levels and frame rates supported by the camera
include FullHD 1,920 by 1,080 at 30 (29.97), 25 or 24 (23.976) fps, and HD 1,280
by 720 or standard definition 640 by 480, at 60 (59.94) or 50 fps.
For standard-definition video shooting, the camera adds a new
Movie Crop function, which provides an approximate 7x additional zoom range with
no loss of image quality when shooting SD quality video, Canon said.
Manual video exposure control provides gives novice filmmakers
image control to create professional-level cinematic video by controlling
attributes including lighting, and depth-of-field using a variety of lenses.
A new professional-level feature in the camera includes Auto ISO
function that works in all creative zone exposure modes including manual.
The T2i enables using autofocus before or during video recording
by pressing the shutter button half-way down in video mode.
Other features include HDMI video-out capability with Consumer
Electronics Control (CEC) multi-component operation using one remote.
The camera is said to have strong low-noise performance using a
variety of features including an ISO range of 100 to 6,400, with extension to
12,800 using a Custom Function. That combined with new noise-reduction technology
produces high-quality images in low-light settings.
The camera features Canon's proprietary iFCL 63-zone dual-layer
metering system offering intelligent evaluative metering with much finer
segmentation than any previous EOS Rebel model.
In the PowerShot series Canon unveiled the PowerShot SX210 IS,
PowerShot SD3500 IS, PowerShot SD1400 IS and PowerShot SD1300 IS.
All are said to offer stylish designs and increased shooting
flexibility in a number of settings using Smart Auto mode, increased
personalization with new Scene Modes and Image effects.
New effects modes in the cameras include Fish-eye and Miniature
modes lend a humorous look and feel when capturing images of their favorite
household pet or landscape scene.
In addition to the face-detection self-timer, the new Smart
Shutter scene mode now has Smile and Wink self-timers where the camera looks
for a wink or smile which will act as the trigger and release the camera's
shutter, Canon said.
The Smart Auto mode has been enhanced with a number of shooting scenarios,

All of the new PowerShots also support new high-spec SDXC memory

The PowerShot SX210 IS (shipping in March at a $349 estimated
retail) features 14.1-megapixel resolution, a 28mm wide-angle lens, 14x optical
zoom, optical image stabilization, a 3-inch LCD screen and a choice of colors
including black, purple and gold.
For shooting video, the PowerShot SX210 IS has the ability to
zoom optically, shoot in stereo sound and has Dynamic Mode Image Stabilization
for improved image clarity. Data can be transferred wirelessly to PCs through
Eye-Fi memory cards.
Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS (shipping in February at $329) is the
next iteration in the compact Elph series and features 14.1-megapixel resolution,
a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen with dragging icons and tap operation to switch between
images during playback, a 24mm ultra-wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom, optical
image stabilization, HD video capture and a choice of colors including black,
silver and pink.
The PowerShot SD1400 IS (shipping in February at $249) offers a super-slim
(less than 1 inch thick) body design, 14.1-megapixel resolution, a 28mm
wide-angle lens with 4x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, HD video capture,
and a choice of four colors including pink, orange, silver and black.
The PowerShot SD1300 IS (shipping in February at $199) features
12.1-megapixel resolution, a 28mm wide angle lens with 4x optical zoom, optical
image stabilization, 2.7 -inch LCD screen, and a choice of colors including
silver, pink, green, blue and brown.
