Mega Group Convention Draws Strong Turnout

SAN ANTONIO – Dealers across the country shrugged off severe winter weather and turned up in droves for Mega Group USA’s national convention here last month.

“Attendance was strong considering some harsh weather that challenged travel for some members,” said Rick Bellows, president of the buying group for independent furniture, CE, majap and mattress retailers.

Their tenacity paid off, Bellows said, as attendees were treated to a full slate of seminars, training sessions, new product introductions, live demos, entertainment, giveaways and special buys at the show, which ran Feb. 15-18.

Highlights included an address by Whirlpool sales VP Sam Abdelnour on the importance of digital marketing; a presentation on brands and merchandising led by TempurPedic/Sealy executive VP Rick Anderson; and the convention’s traditional “Mega Madness” show-special buying session that drew a record numbers of dealers and vendors.

On the CE side, the group held consultative sessions on home automation, and reviewed dealer roadmaps for entrée into that mushrooming business.

“Home automation was explosive at CES; this is clearly the next big thing,” noted Jim Sendrak, Mega’s electronics and marketing executive VP. “For those members who embrace it, it could be the breath of fresh air that dealers have been waiting for in CE.”

Members also gained insights into succession planning during a “Next Generation” meeting led by the group’s chief information officer Scott McFarland.

Mega, based in Germantown, Tenn., boasts some 1,700 member dealers who operate about 3,000 showrooms across the country.

Climes will be decidedly warmer when the group next convenes Aug. 13-16 in Louisville, Ky. For more information visit MegaGroupUSA.com.
