Seattle – Buffalo Technology and Mediabolic today announced a jointly developed a network media device to work specifically with Microsoft’s upcoming Vista operating system.
Buffalo and Mediabolic’s effort places Microsoft’s Windows Rally Technologies into an upcoming version of Bufflo’s LinkTheater Network Media Player. Windows Rally Technologies enables devices to ease wireless network configuration for consumers by allowing instant recognition between similarly equipped devices. The system then creates a visual map of the home network so the end user has a graphic representation of how all the network devices are interacting.
The system is based on the Philips Semiconductor Nexperia PNX 1502 media processor. The chip supports all the major imaging, video and audio formats and using a variety of algorithms can upconvert standard definition video to HD.
The LinkTheater will be available in late June with a $249 suggested retail price. Microsoft’s Vista operating system is not expected to be available to consumers until early 2007.
