Nashville, Tenn. -- Gibson Guitar appointed Bob
Weissburg as global executive VP to work "closely with all divisions to develop
and execute growth strategies for the future," the company announced.
Wiessburg's emphasis will be on CE, but he will also
be involved in the company's musical instruments and pro audio businesses, a
Weissburg will report directly to chairman/ CEO Henry
Weissburg left D&M Holdings last year, having
served as president of sales and marketing for the Americas. He oversaw Denon,
Marantz, Boston Acoustics, McIntosh and D&M Professional products. Before joining D&M, he held executive
positions at Sony, including president of the consumer sales group and SVP of
strategic planning for sales.
As part of Gibson's
diversification into CE, the company at CES announced plans to enter a
strategic partnership with Onkyo in which it will acquire a majority of Onkyo
USA and become the second largest shareholder of Onkyo Corp. in Japan. Under
the deal, Onkyo would also invest in Gibson.

Besides musical instruments and
pro audio brands, Gibson also owns Cerwin-Vega! home audio, which was purchased
last December as part of the acquisition of Stanton Group, which owned the KRK
Systems, Cerwin-Vega! and Stanton DJ brands. With the acquisition, Gibson
created a pro audio division.
