Previous free-shipping holiday offers by full-line retailers including Walmart and Target were limited to select SKUs, required a minimum purchase amount, or set a maximum ship weight. For Sears, which yesterday announced a free shipping offer that will run Oct. 30 through Dec. 19, qualifying purchases must be more than $99 and less than 150 pounds. Sister chain Kmart will similarly provide free shipping on "qualified mailable orders" totaling more than $49.
"Consumers are looking for value, service and savings this year, and our goal is to provide them with convenient, creative and less costly ways to make the holiday shopping experience more enjoyable," said executive VP and chief marketing officer Barry Judge.
The free-shipping offer joins a host of previously announced "hassle-free" holiday initiatives, including an extended return and exchange period of Nov. 13 through Jan. 24. The chain will also maintain its year-round no restocking fee and in-store pick-up policies.
The deadline to place a free-shipping order for Christmas delivery is 11 a.m. EST, Dec. 20, although last-minute orders can be placed for in-store pick up until 3 p.m. local store time on Dec. 24.
