Las Vegas – New Rockford Fosgate car speakers on display at the company’s CES exhibit at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino target niches ranging from high-SPL car audio systems to products that offer both power and sound quality.
The brand is also expanding its selection of amps for marine and off-road-vehicle installation.
For the car, the Rockford brand is exhibiting two new Punch Pro Neo tweeters, a Punch low-profile enclosed powered subwoofer, upgraded Power speakers, and upgraded Punch speakers.
The two Punch Pro Neo tweeters are the 4-ohm PP4-NT and 8-ohm PP8-NT high-efficiency horn tweeters, which ship in the first quarter at $149 per tweeter. They feature 50-watt RMS power handing, neodymium motor structures, aluminum phase plugs, built-in 6dB/octave crossover, and die cast aluminum housing. They work with the brand’s PP4-X and PP8-X crossovers.
The new Punch PS-8 low-profile enclosed powered subwoofer, shipping in the first quarter at a suggested $299, consists of a 150-watt Class D amplifier and 8-inch shallow subwoofer in an enclosure measuring 14.4 by 9.4 by 3.3 inches. It comes with adjustable 12dB/octave crossover, Punch EQ bass control, high- and low-level input selection, 0/180-degree phase selection, and signal-sensing turn on.
The upgraded Power series speakers consist of the 75-watt RMS 6-inch T1650 coax system at a suggested $149 and the 80-watt RMS T1650-S two-way 6-inch component system at $349. They ship in the first and second quarters, respectively. They’re designed for both power and sound quality, the company said.
The Power series coax speaker was upgraded to offer a bridge-mounted tweeter versus the previous pole-mounted design. The 6.5-inch drivers of both new models add the new FlexFit 2 mounting system, whose hole-and-slot mounting pattern facilitates mounting in a majority of domestic, European, and other import model vehicles with 6.5-inch speaker locations.
The Power speakers feature 1-inch tweeters, and the coaxial model incorporates 12dB/octave crossover, while the component system features outboard asymmetrical 18dB and 12dB crossover network. The component system also features user-selectable tweeter level, biamplification, and on/off-axis switching. Flush- and surface-mounting hardware is available for the tweeter.
Upgraded Punch speakers also add the FlexFit 2 mounting system and consist of three coaxial and component systems with 6-inch woofers. They are the $99 P1650, $199 P165-SE, and $249 P165-SI, all shipping in the first quarter.
Also new in the component speakers is an external tweeter crossover to complement a current Rockford Fosgate model with internal crossover, giving dealers a choice depending on installation requirements.
For marine and off-road installs, the brand is extending the sonic signature of its Punch car amps outside the car with the launch of nine “element-ready” Punch series amps, some with Class AB amplification and some with Class BD.
The brand is also launching three small-chassis Power-series amps for marine and off-road applications.
The Punch-series models range in MAP price from $299 to $749 with outputs that include 2×100 watts, 4×75 watts, and 1×300 watts watts into 4 ohms. They ship in the first quarter with element-ready two-part epoxy coating on circuit boards, die-cast aluminum heatsink, stainless steel hardware, balanced differential inputs, RCA passthrough outputs on select models, remote level control, and selectable fully adjustable 12dB/octave Butterworth crossovers.
The compact-chassis Power amps ship in the second quarter at $549 to $599 MAP. They are rated at 2×200, 4×100, and 1×175 watts into 4 ohms.
