More Lincolns To Get Harman Revel Sound Systems

New York — Lincoln is going to the New York International Auto Show with a concept version of a full-size Continental sedan that will feature a Harman Revel sound system when a production version becomes available in 2016, Lincoln announced.

The first Lincoln with Revel sound system will be the all-new 2016 MKX, available later this fall and also on display, the company added.

For its part, Harman said addition Lincoln vehicles not yet announced will get Revel systems before the launch of the Continental.

Late last year, Harman announced a 10-year agreement with Lincoln to offer Revel-brand OEM audio systems on an exclusive basis. The agreement marked the first time that Harman’s Revel brand would appear in factory sound systems, joining other Harman brands such as JBL and Infinity. The company also said at the time that the systems would be designed for each Lincoln vehicle’s interior, with speaker placement, tuning, calibration and the number of speakers unique to each Lincoln model.

In the Continental concept vehicle, Lincoln is showcasing “the promise of quiet luxury from Lincoln going forward,” said Ford Motor Company president/CEO Mark Fields. “It also is a strong indication of what’s to come next year as we introduce our new Lincoln Continental full-size luxury sedan.”

A sleek silhouette and new centered chrome grille are among the design changes that signal “the arrival of a new face for Lincoln,” he said.

With Revel systems, consumers will use the MyLincoln Touch screen to select three listening modes: traditional stereo; audience; and On Stage, a surround-sound experience that places individual instruments and musical elements throughout the cabin. They will also feature Harman’s Clari-Fi technology to restore information lost in compressed music.

To carry over design elements from Revels home speakers, the factory systems will place the tweeter and midrange speakers close together in what’s called “point-source architecture” to improve the accuracy of midrange and high-frequency reproduction, the companies said.

The systems will also use Revel’s proprietary hybrid amplifier design, which combines Class A/B and Class D amplification.

Design elements in the Continental concept vehicle include Venetian leather seat and door panels, satin headliner, shearling wool carpet, rose gold trim around the instrument cluster with contrasting bright chrome trim, and soft-gold LED lights glowing from the center console and from the halo light overhead.

From a panel mounted on the back through-center console, rear-seat passengers can control climate settings and the Revel Ultima audio system.

Rear-seat passengers also get a tablet-supporting lap tray that deploys from the through-center console.

Driver-assist technologies include pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, enhanced parking assistance, and a 360-degree camera that displays images on the MyLincoln Touch screen.
