Audiovox/DICE Add Siri To Select OEM Radios

Grapevine, Texas – Audiovox came to the MERA KnowledgeFest to announce a firmware upgrade that brings the iPhone’s Siri voice control to Dice MediaBridge OEM-integration kits for Audi, VW and BMW vehicles.

The $299-suggested MediaBridge integration kits enable aftermarket autosound installers to add features to an OEM sound system, including factory-radio control of a USB-connected iPod or iPhone, aftermarket satellite-radio tuner, iPhone-installed Livio Internet radio app, and other-brand MP3 players as well as playback of music files stored on USB drives in various formats. The kits also add stereo Bluetooth with hands-free and Bluetooth AVRC. The latter enables wireless control of limited functions of Pandora apps on BlackBerry and Android phones.

With the firmware upgrade for select vehicles, drivers can use hands-free Bluetooth to access the Siri capability of the iPhone 4S, giving drivers voice control over iPhone music playback by asking for a song, artist, playlist or even the genre. Drivers can also dictate and send text messages through Siri, and an incoming text message can be read back. Siri also enables hands-free voice-controlled dialing of any phone number in contacts and lets drivers add reminders, make a calendar entry, and take notes via voice.

With the firmware-updated MediaBridge, a factory head unit’s scan button can be used to initiate a Siri session.

With the next iOS release for iPhone, drivers will have additional voice-activated capabilities, such as hands-free control of launching music apps, navigation, and finding and routing to points of interest, Audiovox said.

Existing Audiovox Driven By Dice MediaBridge kits device are compatible with select models of Acura, Audi, BMW, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, Mini, Nissan, Scion, Toyota and VW vehicles.
