Opalum Expands Active-Speaker Series

LAS VEGAS –

Opalum, the Swedish manufacturer of
slim Scandinavian-design speakers, is launching the
FLOW.4810, a set of active on-wall speakers with 48
1-inch drivers in point-source array in each 1.5-inchesdeep
speaker.

Each speaker, available in black or white, incorporates
embedded 120-watt Class D amplifier that triamplifies
each speaker and delivers bass down to 43Hz.
They will retail for $3,999/pair and ship in the second
quarter.

To connect sources to the speakers, a Control Hub
is available with audio source inputs to send audio in
digital PCM form as well as 24 volts over
standard two-conductor speaker cable to
the active speakers. Both speakers connect
to the same pair of speaker terminals on the
hub, letting users connect the speakers in
parallel or daisy chain them. The speakers
are marked “left” and “right,” and the electronics
in the speakers know which signal to
pick up (left or right), making it impossible to
connect the speakers out of phase, the company
said.

The standard hub comes with an RF remote
at a suggested $199, and a Wi-
Fi-equipped hub with an RF remote
is a suggested $399. The Wi-Fi Hub
features DLNA to stream music from a
networked PC, smartphone or tablet.
To stream from an Apple smartphone,
iPod Touch or iPad, users could add a
DLNA app to the device to stream via
Wi-Fi. Alternately, users could connect
the standard Hub to an Apple AirPort
Express to stream wirelessly from an
Apple mobile device.
