Onkyo Goes High & Low With HT-S3800 & HT-S7800 Home-Theater Systems

Onkyo introduced two new home-theater systems on Monday, including one geared toward consumers still sitting on the soundbar/home-theater system fence.

The HT-S3800 5.1-channel home-theater system is geared toward consumers seeking an entry-level system but one that has more features than a soundbar. The HT-S3800, which carries a $499 suggested retail, has 100 watts/channel analog amplifiers with discrete output circuitry. It includes four HDMI inputs and two composite inputs, and supports 4K/60Hz, 4:4:4 color space, HDR, BT.2020, and HDCP 2.2 copy protection.

Other features include built-in Bluetooth, front left/right tone controls, two pairs of digital and analog audio inputs, FM/AM tuner and a full-sized simple remote controller.

The HT-S7800 5.1.2-channel network home-theater system, meanwhile,  is designed for consumers seeking object-based surround sound and advanced network features, said Onkyo. This system carries a $999 suggested retail and features Dolby Atmos support and is DTS:X-ready. It is powered by discrete non-phase amps delivering 170 watts/channel, a 384 kHz/32-bit DAC, and VLSC noise-free processing.

The HT-S7800 passes 4K/60Hz video with HDR 4:4:4 color space, and BT.2020. It can up-scale 1080p video to 4k and up-convert analog sources via a single HDMI cable. The system has a total of eight HDMI inputs and two outputs.

Other features of the HT-S7800 include support for such online services as Spotify and Tidal; Dynamic Audio Amplification; and Blackfire’s FireConnect technology for wireless sound mirroring.

It comes with front and center two-way speakers with Onkyo Micro Fiber aramid-laminated woofers, and a powered 120-watt subwoofer.

Both receivers feature the company’s AccuEQ calibration suite, and the HT-S7800 adds AccuReflex phase-adjustment technology, said to ensure the overhead sonic dimension from the up-firing front speakers are properly calibrated.

Both systems will be available in May.
