e.Digital plans July 1 shipments of a trio of Internet audio portables, one of which rips directly from a CD player without a PC intermediary.

All feature MP3 playback, embedded flash memory, and SmartMedia-card expansion slots. Included software works on PCs and Macs.

The compact Odyssey 100, at a suggested $129, features 64MB of embedded memory and 30 hours of battery life from a single AA alkaline. The step-up Odyssey 200 at $179 features 128MB embedded memory, digital FM tuner, voice recorder with built-in microphone, and wired remote.

The $229 Odyssey 300 adds ripping/encoding of songs via direct connection to a standard CD player.
