DTS:X Surround Coming To ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ Blu-ray Disc

“The Last Witch Hunter” will be the fourthBlu-ray disc available with DTS:X object-based surround soundtracks, DTS said.

Other Blu-ray titles with DTS:X include “Ex Machina,” “American Ultra” and Sicario.”The Last Witch Hunter” arrives February 2 in a $39.99 Blu-ray Combo Pack with DVD and Digital HD from Summit Entertainment, a Lionsgate company.

The Blu-ray disc’s other included surround formats include English 2.0 DTS Digital Surround, Spanish 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, and English DTS Headphone: X Audio.

With object-based soundtracks, including those with Dolby Atmos, movie makers place and move multiple individual sounds in three-dimensional space at any given time, including overhead. Sounds pan more smoothly around you, and the surround experience is improved no matter where you sit.

The soundtracks of DTS:X Blu-ray discs are playable through existing Blu-ray players, which pass the audio content through their HDMI outputs as bit streams to DTS:X-equipped AVRs and AVPs for decoding.

The technology is also expected to appear on future 4K Blu-ray discs, given that DTS:X metadata is delivered via DTS-HD Master surround soundtracks, which are approved for use on Blu-ray discs and will appear on future 4K Blu-ray discs.

Twenty-eight Blu-ray discs with Dolby Atmos object-based surround are available, with four more to come through January.
