AT&T-owned stores will expand their selection of e-readers beginning Sunday
with the addition of the $139 Kindle 3G with Special Offers.
The carrier began
early this year to sell e-readers through its stores, starting with the Kindle
3G. The carrier's stores also sell the Pandigital Novel. The Kindle models use
Wi-Fi and AT&T's 3G network to download reading material.
purchasers, the Kindle 3G with Special Offers features the Kindle Textbook
Rental service, which delivers discounts up to 80 percent on the list prices of
print textbooks for customized rental periods of 30 to 360 days.
The Kindle 3G, the
carrier said, has been one of the fastest-growing connected devices on
AT&T's network. AT&T's subscription base includes more than 13 million
emerging devices, including e-readers and data-usage devices other than
smartphones, the carrier said. That's more than any other U.S. carrier,

Special Offers features global 3G coverage, 6-inch paper-like Pearl E Ink
display, and access to the Kindle Store's more than 950,000 books. The device's
screen saver is sponsored by AT&T.
