Wikipad Delays Game-Optimized Tablet

Los Angeles – Startup Wikipad has postponed the launch of its gaming-optimized 10.1-inch Android tablet and hasn’t announced a new delivery date.

The $499 Wikipad tablet was to be available Oct. 31 in 1,600 GameStop stores with November sales through additional brick-and-mortar and online retailers.

“There is a last minute opportunity to enhance the Wikipad bundle as well as a minor refinement needed to ensure our first customers are completely satisfied with the Wikipad,” a spokesman said. “We apologize for this delay and want you to know that we are committed to bringing you the very best, high-end gaming tablet possible. We are in the final stage and will be announcing the new date soon.”

 The $499 tablet features detachable wraparound game controller designed to work with Android games designed specifically with game-controller support. The tablet will also be PlayStation Mobile-certified for PlayStation Mobile games.

The tablet features 10.1-inch HD 1,280 by 800 IPS Gorilla Glass display with 16:10 aspect ratio, Android JellyBean 4.1 OS, 1.4GHz quad-core CPU, 12-core Tegra 3 GPU, 16GB RAM, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, DLNA certification, HDMI output, Wi-Fi Direct and stereo Bluetooth.
 It’s promoted as the slimmest and lightest tablet at 0.34 inches in depth and 19.75 ounces in weight.
