Western Digital came to this week’s Mobile World Congress with an elegant solution for expanding the storage capacity of iPhones and iPads.
The new SanDisk-brand iXpand Flash Drive and the Connect Wireless Stick add 256GB of storage and backup to Apple mobile devices.
The iXpand drive features a flexible Lightning connector and a USB 3.0 connector so users can quickly and easily move photos and videos between their iPhone and iPad and a Mac or PC. The included iXpand Drive app offers new features and an improved user experience, the company said, allowing users to automatically back up their camera roll and content from social networking sites, including tagged photos from Facebook and Instagram, and to watch video content straight from the drive. The drive also includes encryption software that password-protects files.
As part of the update, users can now also cast content from the iXpand drive to their TV via Chromecast or Amazon Fire directly from the app.
The new SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick offers iPhone and iPad users the ability to store and stream content via password-protected Wi-Fi connectivity. The Stick is capable of streaming audio or video to three devices at a time via the SanDisk Connect app. The app also supports streaming to TV displays via AirPlay with Apple TV.
The 256GB SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive and SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick are available now at Amazon, BestBuy.com, bhphotovideo.com and other retailers with an MSRP of $280.
