Incipio Group Acquires Griffin Technology

Less than a month after buying Skullcandy, Incipio Group has continued its spending spree, purchasing mobile accessories company Griffin Technology.

Griffin will continue as a stand-alone brand and retain its global headquarters in Nashville. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The announcement follows Griffin’s elimination of  98 positions, about three-quarters at the company’s Nashville home office, in December 2015. It was the second round of job cuts during the year. But the venerable accessories brand should add richly to Incipio’s product portfolio. Griffin’s Survivor line of protective phone and tablet cases are a primary competitor to Otterbox’s collection, and the company has a presence in multiple accessories categories including charging products, cables, in-vehicle, Bluetooth speakers, Apple Watch add-ons and PC peripherals.

“Griffin has a 25 year history of designing, manufacturing and distributing iconic mobile accessories,” stated Andy Fathollahi, founder and CEO of Incipio Group. “As part of Incipio Group, Griffin strengthens our product development and manufacturing capabilities, complements our existing product lines in rugged cases, power and connectivity, and allows our brands to reach a broader domestic and international audience through enhanced distribution in the business-to-business, enterprise and education verticals.”

“This is an exciting and pivotal moment for the Griffin brand,” said Paul Griffin, CEO of Griffin Technology, who founded the company in 1992. “Partnering with Incipio Group provides Griffin with a strong support system and improved capabilities to continue developing accessories that people love and use every day.”
