Actiontec Breaks Into Software Biz

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. — Home-networking manufacturer Actiontec today released Kid Defender, the company's first software product. Kid Defender allows parents to monitor everything their children are doing while online. The application notifies a parent's PC when the child goes online and then lets them watch what the child does on the Internet. Parents can access their home PC from any Internet connected computer. The software allows parents to monitor several PCs at once, set different access rules for different children and save a PC's activity for later review. The initial cost is $79.95, which includes a free one-year subscription for the required service. After that there is a $9.95 per month fee, add $2.49 for each additional child to be monitored.
