Blu-ray Archiving Bundle Hits Market

Glen Cove, N.Y. – Broadfield Distributing is offering a one-box solution for long-term data archival to  Blu-ray discs.

The company’s BluStor bundle includes a compact Pioneer BDR-XD04 burner drive, two blank 50GB BR-R 6x discs and Digistor Rewind software for a suggested $149. A BluStorXL bundle for $199 swaps in two 100GB BDXL 4x discs.

The company said the bundles were brought to market to address the growing needs of videographers, editors, photographers and other digital content creators for a safe, secure and long-term archiving solution.

The BDR-XD04 drive is an ultra-compact USB2 clamshell-type drive that can read and write to all BDXL discs, conventional Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs.

The BluStor bundles were created when Gary Bettan, president of Broadfield, enlisted Pioneer and Digistor to combine efforts and fill a need he saw in the market. Bettan desribed Broadfield as “a leading U.S. distributor of Pioneer Blu-ray Disc burners.”

Steve Cohn, director of optical sales at Pioneer commented, “As the popularity of drive-less ultrabooks and Mac computers continues to rise, the BDR-XD04 becomes the ideal accessory because of its compact size and portability. There’s a growing need for a drive that’s highly transportable for playing CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, as well as for storing valuable personal files on a secure, removable medium.”

The included Digistor Rewind data storage management software continues to update an archive to the Blu-ray disc until it’s full, then spans to multiple discs to allow an endlessly growing archive. The Restore app is burned to the disc so a user can restore an archive to any computer by inserting the archived disc and running the app from the disc, with no software installation required.

Brian Friss, Digistor VP said, “We are thrilled that our Rewind archiving software is part of the BluStor Bundles. This combination gives customers a full solution to easily archive, manage and restore digital files, photos and video using high quality Blu-ray recordable discs.”

Broadfield said the discs feature Extremely Strong Coated Surfaces to protect data from scratches, fingerprints and other contaminants and have been rated for a Blu-ray Archival Life of more than 75 years.

BluStor and BluStorXL are currently available at Videoguys.com with more nationwide retailers to be announced soon.
