Sony Adds Flagship Phone
BERLIN – Sony Mobile Communications went to IFA to unveil its latest flagship smartphone, the 5-inch Xperia Z1 with 20.7-megapixel camera, 2.2GHz quad-core CPU and 4G LTE.
The camera-optimized phone, which is waterproof and dust-resistant like other Z-series models, will launch globally in September. A U.S. availability date wasn’t announced.
Key smartphone features include Miracast to send audio and video wirelessly to a TV, a 3,000 mAh battery, 2GB RAM and flash memory up to 16GB.
Four Plan Galaxy Note 3
NEW YORK — U.S. carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have committed to selling the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 phablet, which was launched at the IFA convention in Berlin.
T-Mobile and AT&T also committed to selling the Note’s companion smart watch, the Galaxy Gear.
Sprint said it would offer the Note 3 in the fall. T-Mobile and Verizon said they would offer the devices “soon,” and AT&T didn’t lay out a timetable at press time. No carrier revealed pricing.
LG G2 Pricing, Dates Set
NEW YORK — T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and AT&T announced launch dates and pricing for LG’s new flagship smartphone, the G2. Sprint previously promised to offer the device but didn’t reveal a price or date at press time.
At Verizon, the global-ready G2 will be available online and in stores starting Sept. 12 for $199.
AT&T will bring the G2 into its stores and in indirect channels on Sept. 13 at $199 with two-year contract or $27/month under the AT&T Next nocontract trade-in program, which isn’t available yet through indirect channels. The phone went on sale Sept. 6 on AT&T’s website.
At T-Mobile, the device is available for pre-order and will go on sale Sept. 18 at T-Mobile.com, then launch nationwide on Sept. 25 at participating TMobile retail stores, select dealers and national retail stores. The T-Mobile model will be available for qualified customers at $99.99 down with 24 equal monthly device payments of $21 with T-Mobile’s no-contract Simple Choice Plan.
