NEW YORK – While not traditionally regarded as a gift item, major appliances have, over the past several years, increasingly joined the pantheon of Black Friday promotions.
Last Thanksgiving weekend was no different. Among the more eyecatching doorbusters was a white top-load Kenmore washer and companion electric dryer priced at $500 for the pair at Kmart. The deal was only available on Black Friday and in limited quantities, with Kmart promising just three laundry pairs per store.
Sister chain Sears stepped things up with a 3.6-cubic-foot high-efficiency Kenmore top-load washer and companion dryer in white for $390 each, a lead Black Friday promotion.
At The Home Depot, a 25-cubic- foot Maytag French four-door refrigerator in stainless steel was discounted $801 to a Black Friday sale price of $1,698, while Lowe’s touted a top-load Whirlpool laundry pair with 3.6-cubic-foot washer for $998, a savings of $500 for the pair.
Elsewhere, Best Buy offered a 26-cubic-foot side-by-side Frigidaire fridge with through-the-door ice and water in white or black for $800, while h.h.gregg’s lead majap was a 20.6-cubic-foot stainless steel French three-door fridge for $888.
