SAN DIEGO — Mad Catz Interactive is now taking pre-orders for its Freq7 gaming headset, although it’s not scheduled to ship until the first fiscal quarter of 2014.
The headset, which is part of Mad Catz’s GameSmart line, features Dolby Headphone technology and Dolby Pro Logic IIx technology, said to expand stereo and 5.1 audio to 7.1 surround sound. PC users are able to toggle between surround sound and stereo while gaming.
The EQs for the Freq7 are set via software, and users can create various settings for various uses (such as gaming, chat or music). Users can also separately adjust chat and game volume levels, Mad Catz said.
Other features include 50mm drivers, on-ear controls, fold-flat design, mic mute button with LED indicator and a desktop stand. The cable is detachable, and the Freq7 operates with both USB- and 3.5mm-compatible cables. Its microphone is compatible with Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia, Windows Phone 8 and HTC handsets, according to the company.
Four colors will be offered: gloss black, gloss white, gloss red and matte black. Suggested retail is $199.
