Accessories For Samsung Phones Gaining Share

NEW YORK — As Samsung gains ground in the smartphone market (see p. 17), accessories options for users of the company’s devices are expanding along with it.

PowerSkin has announced a nearfield communications (NFC)-capable charging skin for the Samsung Galaxy Express smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy Express PowerSkin retails for $79.99 and will ship on Nov. 20. It provides 2,000 mAh of power and extends talktime by 70 percent, the company said. It features an on/off button, LED battery lights displaying charging status, a soft-touch anti-dust silicone exterior, and an included cable for syncing data and recharging.

As part of PowerSkin’s November specials, consumers who sign up for company’s mailing list will receive exclusive deals, including $10 discounts and free gifts. Other giveaways will run during the month of November on Facebook.com/PowerSkinCases.

Powerskin also debuted NFC sleeves for the HTC One X+ and HTC Windows Phone 8x smartphones.

Seidio has begun shipping its Obex case for the Samsung Galaxy S III. The case exceeds the IP68 military protection standard for dust and water. The case protects the device against complete, continuous submersion for 30 minutes in 6.6 feet of water. Waterproof membranes guarantees external matter will not be able to penetrate the phone’s speakers or microphone and a built-in screen protector promotes touch sensitivity and clarity and features anti-reflection glass, the company said.

iLuv Creative Technology announced a line of cases and accessories for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It includes the Pocket Agent Pro, a convertible protective leather case that doubles as a stand to support two viewing angles. Also available is the Pocket View, a synthetic leather version. Both are available in three colors.

Also new is the Gelato Shield, featuring a clear front cover to completely protect the face and back of the Note 2. The built-in front cover protects the touch screen, while maintaining touch sensitivity. A soft frame surrounds all sides and corners of the device to provide shock absorption, while allowing access to ports.
