BOCA RATON, FLA. — Office Depot has added wearable fitness products to its assortment, including pedometers, GPS watches, fitness bands and heart-rate straps by Striiv, Scosche and Sync.
The chain’s marketing executive VP Tim Rea said the tie-in between office products and fitness is a natural. “There is a trend among small, medium and large businesses to encourage health and wellness programs as a way to reduce health costs,” he noted. “Healthier employees equal higher performance and lower costs.”
For the rollout, 10 products across three brands are being merchandised in end caps at the front of the stores. “Our assortment was selected based on what features and functions would match our customers’ fitness needs in the workplace,” as well as on their affordability and connectivity, Rea said.
The chain will also produce and post on its website a series of work-related health videos featuring fitness experts.
