For years the DSLR and interchangeable-lens camera monikers have been, well, interchangeable. So it came, somewhat, as a surprise that a mirrorless compact system camera and not a DSLR took TWICE’s top honors as the first VIP in the Interchangeable-Lens DSLR category.
Samsung Electronics’ flagship NX300 mirrorless compact system camera ($750 with either the 20-50mm lens or the 18-55mm OIS III lens), along with the optional NX 45mm F1.8 2D/3D interchangeable lens, is one the first one-lens 3D systems capable of capturing both still images and FullHD movies in 3D quality.
“The NX300 and NX 45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens raises the standard for smart compact system cameras blending pro-level performance and industry-leading connectivity,” said Ron Gazzola, Samsung Electronics America digital imaging marketing VP. “Together they deliver a remarkable combination of features, functionality and style for consumers wanting an enriched camera experience and the unique ability to capture stills or Full 1080p HD video in 2D or 3D using the world’s first one-lens 3D system for a consumer camera.”
In designing the camera, Samsung opted to juxtapose modern and retro elements, to broaden its appearance to advanced photo enthusiasts.
The camera, like the rest of the NX series, features an updated version of Smart Camera 2.0, offering a hub of advanced connectivity features.
The NX300 also offers built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to share photos and videos between devices and desktops. A Direct Link hot key and Smart Camera iOS/Android app enables secure image sharing at the touch of a button between camera, smartphone and tablet technology.
A TV Link replaces a physical HDMI connection by playing back photos on any device connected to the same wireless access point as the camera.
The NX300 was also one of the first cameras incorporate nearfield communications (NFC) technology support.
