NEW YORK – For television and video technology, the upcoming CE Week Line Shows event here June 24-27 will be all about 3D and 4K Ultra High Definition as a number of manufacturers plan to showcase some of their top 2013 models.
Manufacturers including Sony, Samsung, LG Electronics and upstart Seiki, which have previously shown some of their 2013 4K Ultra HD offerings, will use the event to show off the brilliant picture quality capability, while several others plan to give showgoers an even better look at their technology stories for the year.
The following is a glance at what a few companies have in store:
Epson will use CE Week to demonstrate its new flagship PowerLite Pro Cinema 6020UB 3-LCD projector, with both 3D and 2D image capability. The 1080p native resolution unit features a contrast ratio of up to 320,000:1, 2,400 lumens of color brightness and 2,400 lumens of white brightness. Epson is targeting the product at custominstalled home-theater applications.
Other features include 3D Drive Technology, builtin cinema filter for improved color fidelity, THX picture quality certification and a Split Screen mode for watching two sources at once.
Epson ships two pairs of 3D glasses, an extra lamp, ceiling mount and cable cover with the Pro Cinema 6020UB.
Toshiba will demonstrate its L9300U-series 4K Ultra HD LED LCD TVs offering four times the resolution of 1080p HD models. The series, which includes 58-, 65- and 84-inch models, features a new modern, simple and elegant design with gun-metallic trim and matching frame stand. It includes Toshiba’s proprietary Cevo 4K Quad+Dual Core processor, delivering advanced upconversion of all video sources to 4K resolution.
The sets include extensive Cloud TV functionality with wireless connectivity.
Toshiba will also present the BDX6400 Media Box with Universal Disc Player. The Media Box supports Blu-ray Disc, DVD and Audio CD playback; smart-TV connectivity; advanced features such as a full, open web browser with bookmark capability; and an easy-touse multi-page user interface.
The Toshiba Media Box provides access to a wide variety of high-quality content, including apps for YouTube, Netflix, Vudu Movies and Vudu Apps, CinemaNow, Hulu Plus and Pandora.
Disc playback quality is said to be further enhanced for “superior 1080p playback with advanced edge and detail enhancement as well as 4K UltraHD up-conversion.”
Westinghouse Digital will use its CE Week booth 58 showcase to unveil its full line of 4K Ultra HDTV LED LCD TVs and a Roku-ready 50-inch LED HDTV, featuring a Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) HDMI port that is compatible with a plug-in Roku Streaming Stick.
The three-model 4K Ultra HD TV line includes the 55- ($3,999 suggested retail), 65- ($5,999) and 84- inch ($14,999) screen sizes, and offers up to native 4K (3,840 by 2,160 pixels) resolution. The company said the 4K sets will ship in the fourth quarter.
The Ultra HD LED models offer 5,000:1 native contrast ratios, 500 (cd/m2) brightness and 178 degree viewing angles. Audio is powered by a 15-watt dual speaker system.
Meanwhile Western Digital opted for a two-piece approach to smart-TV functionality in the new 50-inch Roku-ready LED FullHD 1080p LCD TV.
With the Roku Streaming Stick, consumers can access up to 700 channels from an easily upgradeable platform.
In the event that new IPTV technologies emerge, the Streaming Stick is automatically updated by Roku, or the customer has the option of buying a newer add-on device without having to replace the whole TV.
