COMMACK, N.Y. – Tamron introduced this month
the 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC (model B011) highpower
zoom lens designed for to fit Sony NEX (Emount)
compact system cameras.
The new all-in-one zoom lens is lightweight and
compact, in keeping with the design of the diminutive
interchangeable lens camera format.
The lens began shipping in the U.S. Dec. 15 at a
$739 suggested retail.
As the NEX-series cameras (NEX-3, NEX-C3,
NEX-5, NEX-5N) have an image sensor equivalent in
size to APS-C sensors, the lens’ angle of view is the
equivalent to 27-300mm in a 35mm camera. When
used for video on the Sony NEX-VG10 interchangeable
lens camcorder, the angle of view equivalent to
32.4-360mm in 35mm format.
The 18-200mm Di III VC uses a 62mm filter and
weighs 16.2 ounces.
It is equipped with Tamron’s Vibration Compensation
to reduce camera shake during handheld shooting.
A stepping motor adopted for the AF drive accommodates
the cameras’ contrast-detection AF and shooting
video. This also gives the drive a quieter operation, for
video use. It
also allows for Direct Manual Focus to make fine manual
adjustments after initial AF focusing.
It features a metallic lens barrel exterior and is available
in a choice of black or silver.
