Sony Unveils 11 Cyber-shots, Expands 3D

LAS VEGAS —

Sony in unveiling at International
CES 11 new Cyber-shot point-and-shoot digital
cameras, all of which will now incorporate Sweep
Panorama functionality.

In addition, CMOS image sensors bringing
low-light capability will be availability in more
than half of the line,

Five of the 11 new models at CES this year will
have 3D capability using Sony’s proprietary 3D
Sweep Panorama system and a new 3D stills feature.
All are slated to ship in the February/March
time frame.

Sony’s new 3D still feature takes two images
simultaneously, the original and another as a
reference for depth using a one-lens system.
They are saved as an MPO file, the standard
for 3D photos, and can be played on any 3Denabled
HDTV.

All three of the company’s digicam lines
will have models with 3D options — the W, H
and T series. They range from the DSC-WX9
($219) with a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, 5x
wide-angle zoom, optical image stabilization,
10 fps and AVCHD video shooting up to the
$379 16-megapixel DSC-TX100V with a new
3.5-inch OLED screen and the ability to record
1080 60p movies.

Other new features in select models in the
line include improved HDR, high-speed linear
autofocus system, dual recording capability
with video 10 fps burst shooting, and 1080/60p
recording.

The W series will include Sony’s entry-level
models.

Models shipping in February include the W510
(12 megapixels, 2.7-inch LCD), the $130 W530
(14 megapixels, 2.7-inch LCD), the $160 W560
(3-inch LCD with Optical Steady Shot) and the
$179 W570 (slim design. 16 megapixels, 5x
zoom).

The value-added segments slated for March introduce
Exmor R sensors, FullHD video capture,
and a price reduction from a $300 starting price
point last year to $220.

Models slated for March include the WX9 and
WX10 (10fps, CMOS and 7x f/2.4 zoom).

Step-up models include the $230 H70 (16
megapixels, 10x, 3-inch LCD and 720p) and the
$300 HX7 (1080i AVCHD, Superior Auto HDR).

Other models are the $219 T100 (slim design,
16 megapixels, 4x), the $330 TX10 (slim 10-foot
waterproof design, 16 megapixels, 4x zoom, and
1080i AVCHD dual recording), and the TX100V.
