Samsung Licenses Tessera Technologies

SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Tessera Technologies recently said that Samsung Electronics has licensed its FotoNation FaceTracker solution for high-performance face detection and tracking capabilities.

Samsung cameras using the FotoNation FaceTracker solution will offer faster, high-performance face detection and tracking capabilities for automatic settings that capture the highest-quality shots, Tessera said.

The face-oriented technology will detect up to 10 faces in the camera viewfi nder in as little as 0.1 seconds. It enables a camera to automatically adjust focus, color and exposure settings, helping to optimize portraits even when subjects are backlit, offcenter or over/under exposed.

Tessera said Samsung Electronics also licensed its FotoNation Smile- Check and FotoNation BlinkCheck extension modules that indicate when faces are smiling or blinking, or synchronizing a shutter to when a human subject is smiling.

When combined with FotoNation FaceTracker, the technology will enable select Samsung cameras running Samsung media processors to offer enhanced image quality for a variety of video- and picture-capture applications.
