WAYNE, N.J. – JVC introduced a hybrid digital still
camera/camcorder based on the company’s Falconbrid
high-speed imaging engine to capture FullHD 1080/60p
video and 12-megapixel still images.
Model JVC GC-PX10 (shipping this month at a $900
suggested retail) is said to offer a bundle of professionallevel
capabilities, such as 300 fps video recording for
high-quality super-slow motion and the ability to capture
pristine still images from video.
The camera is equipped with JVC’s new Falconbrid
high-speed imaging engine, first used in JVC’s FullHD
3D camcorder, the GS-TD1.
Falconbrid is a single-chip technology with the processing
power to allow the GC-PX10 to record FullHD
progressive video at a 36Mbps rate.
The camera can shoot 8.3-megapixel stills while recording
FullHD video. The camera’s image sensor is
based on a 1/2.3-inch 12.75 megapixel back-Illuminated
CMOS sensor.
For low-light still shooting, the camera features up to
6,400 ISO sensitivity. The camera is also capable of burst
still shooting at 8.3-megapixel (3,840 by 2,160 pixels) resolution
at 60 shots-per-second, up to 130 shots total per
burst, or 12-megapixel stills at 30 fps.
The rate is said to surpass that of many d-SLR cameras
currently available.
For super-slow-motion shooting, the GC-PX10 can
shoot video at 300 fps, JVC said, at VGA (640 by 360)
resolution.
JVC said the function can be used for up to two hours
of continuous shooting.
The camera also includes optical image stabilization
with JVC’s Advanced Image Stabilizer technology, a 10x
optical zoom or up to 19x Dynamic Zoom (digital) with
no image degradation, Konica Minolta HD Lens optics, a
mode dial for both automatic and manual settings (white
balance, aperture and shutter), microphone output and headphone input.
The camera adds 32GB of internal memory
and includes an SDXC/SDHC card slot, tilting
3-inch touchpanel monitor, HDMI output
and bundled LoiLoScope FX software for
Windows.
