Ahead Software Targets Digital Cameras

Ahead Software, makers of the Nero family of software, announced its latest program, this one aimed at the growing market of digital camera owners.

The Nero PhotoShow Elite digital imaging software lets users capture, edit and manage digital photos and photo albums; create musical slideshows; make screen savers; and order customized photo gifts.

Through partnerships with the online processors SnapFish and Shutterfly, PhotoShow users can directly upload their images from the software to these services to have photo prints made and mailed to their homes. The software's editing tools include red-eye correction, cropping, cloning, paint brush and auto-fix.

Nero PhotoShow Elite also contains several creative features that let users add text, clip art, captions, frames and other effects, and create musical slideshows that can be shared via email or HTML link.

Ahead also teamed with San Francisco-based software developer Simple Star, which also sells a consumer digital imaging program called Photo Show, to integrate a number of Simple Star features into its new program. For instance, Nero owners can order custom DVDs of their musical slideshows and customized photo gifts, including mugs, T-shirts, calendars and mouse pads printed with photos they have created directly from the program.

Nero PhotoShow Elite will ship this month for a suggested $49.99.

The company also announced updates to its Nero 6 Ultra Edition, adding a lite version of Nero PhotoShow — PhotoShow Express — to the multimedia software suite for a suggested $99.99.
