Next-Gen Retail May Be Unrecognizable

In this controversial think piece, retail industry futurist Doug Stephens extrapolates current industry trends to portend that as Amazon becomes the world’s Sears catalog, and products begin replenishing themselves, stores will no longer be used primarily for selling, yet will  become more valuable to vendors than ever.

In 2011, in what has now become retail folklore, Ron Johnson, one of the brains behind the Apple Store, was hired to resuscitate the American department store chain JCPenney.
