HP Unveils New SMB Printers

Hewlett-Packard introduced a host of entry-level laser and inkjet printers for small- to medium-sized businesses during its annual analyst and media conference, held here earlier this month.

The new single function models, which will sell through the retail channel, include the LaserJet 1020, LaserJet 1022, Business Inkjet 1000, the DeskJet 9800 series and the Color LaserJet 2600n. All are now shipping.

The 1020 is HP’s entry-level piece carrying an estimated street price of $179. The step-up 1022, $199, has a 19 page per minute (ppm) print rate and optional wired and wireless networking. Filling out the laser line is the 2600n, It features 8 ppm color printing and a $399 estimated street price.

On the inkjet side are the Business inkjet 1000, $149 and the 9800 series. The former model has 4,800dpi print resolution, 18 ppm color and 23 ppm monochrome print speeds and an optional two-sided print feature to reduce paper usage. It has a higher duty cycle than a consumer-level inkjet, enabling it to keep up with a small office’s needs, the company said.

The 9800 is a wide carriage, 13-inch by 19-inch printer with 30 ppm monochrome and 20 ppm color output. Options include six-color ink and two-sided printing. Estimated street price is $299.
