CUPERTINO, CALIF. – Seagate is continuing its fight
to make consumer data backup simple and convenient
with the release of its Backup Plus storage devices.
The Backup Plus hard drives, for Mac and Windows,
utilize the company’s Dashboard software to
enable one-click local backup. In addition, the portable
and desktop external storage drives will download and
store images from Facebook and Flickr.
Seagate said the proliferation of camera phones and
people directly uploading to social networks means
even more personal data is going unprotected because
consumers rarely, if ever, back up their phones.
The portable drives will come in red, blue, silver and
black with capacities of 500GB, $119; 750GB, $129
and 1TB, $139. The desktop versions are 1TB, $129;
2TB, $149; 3TB, $179 and 4TB, $249.
The portable Mac models will come in silver with
500GB and 1TB capacities, $119 and $139, respectively.
The 2TB desktop is $189 and the 3TB drive is
$209.
All are in stores starting June 12.
