MERA Joins AVB In Car Stereo Co-op

Indianapolis — The Mobile Enhancement Retailers Association (MERA) has joined forces with Associated Volume Buyers (AVB) to form a car stereo buying group.

AVB, which has grown the BrandSource buying group of appliance retailers to 2,500 stores, will help MERA provide its members group product purchasing and it will offer members 12- to 24-month interest-free financing at competitively low rates. Additionally, members will have their own extended-service company, wholesale finance company and warehouse. Other benefits will include health insurance.

MERA is calling the group a “marketing, promotion and product cooperative,” which will function as a non-profit organization that seeks to elevate the success of specialty mobile electronics retailers.

MERA members, either suppliers or retailers, are not required to participate in the co-op.

The co-op will launch in 2008 and was officially announced this week at a manufacturer summit held in Chicago.
