Audiovox Shows Mercedes DVD/Monitors

Audiovox introduced a headrest DVD/monitor for the Mercedes-Benz Active Restraint Headrest System.

The company said that the Mercedes-Benz line can represent 10 percent to 15 percent of Audiovox's custom headrest sales, according to sales senior VP Tom Malone. The Mercedes line has remained a challenge, however, as its Active Restraint System uses headrests that automatically thrust forward to protect the neck in a rear-end collision. Other luxury car makers are expected to adopt similar systems in the future.

Audiovox's new model HR9000D DVD/monitors work with the Active Restraint System. They include a pair of 7-inch monitors that can switch from widescreen to standard size, FM modulator and a wired game controller with 30 built-in games. Each headrest monitor includes a DVD player at a suggested retail system price $1,799.

Vizualogic also introduced a headrest monitor for the Mercedes Active Restraint System last November at $1,799.
