Nintendo Reports Lower Sales, Revises Forecast

Osaka, Japan — Nintendo reported lower net sales, but a reduced loss in its fiscal first half, ended Sept. 30, and revised its forecast for its entire fiscal year.

Net sales for the fiscal first half slipped to 200,994 million yen down from the previous year’s 215,738 million yen.

The net loss was reduced during the first half to 27,996 million yen, down from the 70,273 million yen loss of the prior year’s first half. The operating loss for the half was down to 29,159 million yen, down from the prior year’s 57,346 million yen loss.

Redmond, Wash. – With the pending release of the Wii U gaming console, Nintendo said Monday it has cut the U.S. suggested retail price of its existing Wii console to $130 in advance of the holiday shopping season.

The price is being applied to a new configuration of the Wii console, which is beginning to arrive in stores now and will continue to ramp up through Oct. 28.

Englewood Cliffs – LG Electronics USA and Activision have joined forces on a new promotional campaign supporting the Nov. 13 release of the 3D-enabled “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” video game.

The nationwide campaign will include advertising on TV, cinema, online and in select retail stores, starting launch night and running through Nov. 21.

As part of the effort, gamers will receive a discount from LG when purchasing both a copy of the game and one of LG’s Cinema 3D TVs.

Redmond, Wash. — Nintendo Thursday revealed full details on its Wii U home console and touchscreen Wii U GamePad controller.

The new HD gaming system, which is slated to hit U.S. shelves Nov. 18, will be joined by more than 50 games in the early weeks of release.

Tokyo – Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) said Wednesday that PlayStationPlus, the subscription gaming service package on PlayStationNetwork, will be available for PlayStationVita (PS Vita) starting in November.

At the same time, the company said it will start to deliver dedicated content for PlayStationMobile, delivering the PlayStation gaming on open operating system-based devices, through PlayStationStore on October 3.

Tokyo — Sony Computer Entertainment plans a fall launch of its PlayStation Mobile initiative under which new game titles will be available through the PlayStation store for downloading to PlayStation Certified smartphones and tablets.

The initiative is promoted as delivering a PlayStation-like gaming experience on mobile devices built on the open Androids OS. The games will also work on Sony’s portable PlayStation Vita.

DENVER — Panasonic will unveil at CEDIA a new line of LCD-based home theater projectors specially enabled for video game play.

The company will underscore that capability at the show by bringing Major League Professional Gamer Tom Taylor (aka Tsquared) to its booth (825) to demonstrate the projectors’ enhanced features and capabilities.

Highlighting the new offerings is Panasonic’s PT-AX200 projector, featuring 0.7-inch LCD panels with 1280 by 720p resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
