Tokyo – Jack Tretton, president/CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEA), will leave the company as of March 31, the result of a mutual agreement between the executive and the company not to renew their contractual relationship.
Shawn Layden, currently executive VP and COO of Sony Network Entertainment International, will replace Tretton as of April 1, the company said.
Tretton has been with SCEA since its inception in 1995. As one of the founding members of the executive team, Tretton played a pivotal role in launching all PlayStation platforms in North America.

New York – Sales in the United States of Sony’s PlayStation4 entertainment console topped Microsoft’s Xbox One in the month of January, a new report from the NPD Group revealed.
Exact numbers were not revealed, but reports said the PS4 results more than doubled its closest rival in the month.
Redmond, Wash. — The results are in for the first 24 hours since the Nov. 22 release of Microsoft’s Xbox One gaming console, and it appears to be a tie.
The computer software giant said sales of the Xbox One surpassed 1 million units in less than 24 hours across 13 countries. The tally matched results for North America from the first 24 hours of Sony’s PlayStation 4, which launched on Nov. 15.
Redmond, Wash. – Microsoft’s Xbox One gaming console, which launches Friday, will incorporate a new Hulu Plus experience.
The console will include a Hulu Plus app for Xbox One that was designed to improve the TV-watching experience, the companies said.
Calabasas, Calif. — Microsoft’s Xbox One game console will incorporate DTS’s new DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 decoder when it goes on sale Friday.
With the technology, the console will be able to decode 7.1-channel soundtracks streamed over the Internet in the DTS-HD format.
The new DTS decoder not only supports streamed and downloaded video incorporating DTS-HD soundtracks, but it also decodes any DTS audio format on optical discs, including DTS-HD Master Audio, the company said.
Framingham, Mass. — IDC is predicting that PlayStation 4 sales will just barely beat out Microsoft’s Xbox One this holiday season.
It also said overall console sales will enjoy a slight uptick in sales compared with 2012.
The report credited the PS4’s lower price point for its expected dominance this year.
Redmond, Wash. — Looking to amp up interest in its underperforming video game console, Nintendo revealed Thursday that it has cut the price by $50 for the Deluxe version of its Wii U video game console, to $300, and also added a new entry level handheld game player.
The Wii U console price drop is scheduled to take effect September 20, and will be applied to a bundle including a black Wii U console with 32GBs of internal storage, a tablet-style Gamepad controller and a copy of the game Nintendo Land.
Tokyo - Sony Computer Entertainment officially revealed that its PlayStation 4 (PS4) next-generation video game console will launch in North America Nov. 15.
Sony’s PS4 ($400 suggested retail) will deliver powerful new graphics and speed combined with integrated social capabilities, and second-screen features utilizing the handheld PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) and other mobile devices.
In related news, Walmart said it will offers shoppers “a second chance to get their hands on the Xbox One and PS4.”
New York – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) revealed Monday its PlayStation Vita Summer Select, which is billed as a new PlayStation Store event highlighting upcoming downloadable games and offering special launch week deals for PlayStationPlus members.
Continuing PlayStation’s support for independent developers by bringing their latest games to players, Sony’s PS Vita Summer Select will feature four indie games launching over the next four weeks.
Los Angeles — Polk Audio used E3 to debut three audio products custom engineered to produce a more immersive video gaming experience.
Two of the new products — the N1 soundbar and 4 Shot gaming headphone — were developed in collaboration with Microsoft and optimized to deliver audio finely tuned to the new Xbox One, Polk said.
The third product, the 133t headphone, was designed specifically for game play and entertainment using the Xbox 360 console.
Pricing on the products was not announced.
