San Francisco — Smart-TV app developer Flingo said Wednesday that MStar Semiconductor has agreed to integrate Flingo’s new Samba multi-screen synchronization software into the new MStar system on a chip (SoC).

Flingo said Samba will enable synchronization of any screen — TV, tablet, phone or PC — with live TV shows.

Samba automatically identifies advertisements and TV shows, and presents the viewer with real-time information and social media discussions about the programming being playing on TV, Flingo said.

LAS VEGAS — The Digital Entertainment Group, a CE and Hollywood studios-backed home video promotions group, revealed during this week’s International CES that after seven straight years of declines, U.S. home video revenue showed growth from the prior year.

The group cited market research showing a 0.23 percent increase, to $18 billion in the year, following multiple years of shrinking revenue brought on by the declining growth of the aging DVD format. In fact, annual home video revenue dropped $4 billion between 2004 and 2011.

Hauppauge, N.Y. — Voxx Accessories today announced it is teaming with Roku to develop an integrated digital TV antenna that will allow consumers to receive over-the-air local HD broadcasts as well as stream entertainment from the Roku platform.

Voxx will introduce the new digital antenna with Roku streaming in the fourth quarter of 2013 under the RCA and Terk brands.

Arlington, Va. — Consumers are seeking HDTVs with the latest built-in features as a growing number of U.S. adults own smart-app-enabled displays, according to new research from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

The study, “Beyond 2D Viewing: Understanding the Demand for Advanced Television Features,” examined whether current built-in television features, such as 3D and Internet-connected applications, are meeting the needs of consumers.

LG said it has started taking pre-orders in South Korea for its 55-inch OLED TV, with deliveries planned for February.


Seoul, South Korea — LG Electronics said here Tuesday that it has started taking pre-orders for its 55-inch WRGB OLED TV (model 55EM9700) in South Korea, and expects to begin deliveries in February.

Other markets where the LG OLED TV will be available will be announced over the next several weeks along with their respective prices, the company said.

The breakthrough big-screen display technology was first unveiled at the 2012 International CES, and the company plans to begin shipments by the end of the year.

LG will introduce at International CES next week an expanded lineup of smart TVs, including models with immersive bezel and stand designs and enhanced onscreen interfaces.


Seoul, South Korea — LG’s parent company continued to let more cats out of the bag on its planned new product showcase for the upcoming 2013 International CES next week by revealing details on its core LCD TV and plasma lines.

The company previously tipped its hand on a spate of other TV offerings, including next-generation Google TVs, a short-throw laser-based DLP home-theater projector, and Ultra High-Definition and OLED advanced TV technologies.
