Berlin – Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Camera, the first-ever Android-powered digital camera with Wi-Fi and 3G/4G connectivity, on the eve of the IFA electronics show here.
In addition, Samsung debuted the Galaxy Note II, its second-generation "phablet" now with a 5.5-inch screen but actually thinner than the original 5.3-inch Note, along with a Windows 8 smartphone, tablet and two laptops.

Flushing Meadows, N.Y. — Panasonic revealed this week that it has expanded its traditional home entertainment equipment sponsorship of the 2012 U.S. Open Tennis Championships, which run through Sept. 9.
This year, Panasonic is offering three separate environments in key locations of the Tennis Center, each providing tennis fans with different experiences.
This year’s deal was expanded to include Panasonic’s Lumix digital cameras for the first time.
Center Valley, Pa. – Olympus unveiled Wednesday the new flagship model in its Stylus point-and-shoot camera line – the 40x Ultra Zoom SP-820UZ iHS.
The compact camera, which will be available in September at a $330 suggested retail, features a 40x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 22.4- 896mm on a 35mm camera), which can be doubled to 80x with the company’s Super-Resolution Zoom digital zoom technology.
Lake Success, N.Y. – Canon USA announced two long-zoom additions to the PowerShot compact point-and-shoot camera lineup that will ship to dealers in September.
The PowerShot SX500 IS ($330 suggested retail) and PowerShot SX160 IS ($230 suggested retail) digital cameras feature optical zoom ranges to 30x and 16x, respectively. Both cameras are equipped with newly enhanced autofocus (AF) technology with greater speed and accuracy over previous SX-series cameras, the company said.
Scottsdale, Ariz. — Ingram Micro’s Consumer Electronics division (IMCE) hosted its quarterly All Hands meeting last week.
At the meeting Ingram Micro staffers worked to help the local community by building bicycles that were later donated to children in need.
SOLMS, GERMANY – Leica Camera AG introduced Wednesday the V-Lux 3, a compact digital camera with a 4.5-108mm f/2.8-5.2 ASPH 24-fold super-telephoto lens.
The camera’s wide range of focal lengths is said to be equivalent to a 25–600mm lens on a 35mm format camera. It offers a 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor and will record up to 1,920 by 1080/60p HD video.
