Sony Unveils Wi-Fi Camera Pair

San Diego – Sony introduced Wednesday a pair of Wi-Fi-enabled cameras including an updated mirrorless compact system camera for its NEX line and the company’s first foray into the action video camera, a growing camcorder sub-category.

The NEX-5R mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera features a 16.1-megapixel APS-C Exmor R CMOS image sensor and a new fast hybrid AF system. It also marks the company’s first NEX model to incorporate Wi-Fi capability.

 

 

Canon Recalls Rash-Inducing T4i DSLRs

Washington — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice this week that Canon USA has voluntarily recalled about 68,200 units of its just-released Canon EOS T4i DSLR for having a hand grip that can potentially cause a rash to some users.

The CPSC said consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed, and warned that it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Pentax Unveils Weather-Tight K-30 DSLR

DENVER – Pentax Ricoh Imaging Americas introduced the weather-resistant K-30 DSLR featuring a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with FullHD 1080/24p and 30p video capture.

The K-30 is scheduled to hit retail shelves in July at an $850 suggested retail for the body only, or $900 for the body with an 18-55mm kit lens.

It was said to have been designed to resist damage from dust and inclement weather, including temperatures down to 14 degrees F, using 81 seals.

Pentax Intros K-x d-SLR, Updates Industry On Reorganization

Pentax used the launch of its latest entry-level d-SLR, the K-x, last week, to update its retailers and the industry on its ongoing reorganization.

The company-wide changes, dubbed The Plan, covers a wide range of policy shifts, including improving retailer relations, getting a better handle on inventory control, and having more discipline when it comes to product development and the company’s finances, said Bill Zani, Pentax’s sales and marketing VP.

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — Canon USA recently introduced a new flagship model in its Rebel digital-SLR camera line and four PowerShot compact digital pointand- shoot cameras.

The new top-end EOS Rebel T2i d- SLR camera features an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor, 3.7 fps still shooting, an ISO range of 100 to 6400 (expandable to 12,800), a 63-zone Dual Layer Metering System, 3-inch 1.04 million-dot LCD screen with a 3:2 widescreen aspect ratio, and Canon’s DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor.
