NEW YORK — To keep the smartphone momentum going, the following suppliers unveiled new products in recent weeks:

Samsung: AT&T is positioning the Samsung Infuse 4G as a “supermodel of superphones,” thanks to a large 4.5-inch display, shallow depth of 8.99mm, 1.2GHz processor, and a bright Super AMOLED Plus display viewable outdoors.

The Android 2.2 device, available exclusively on the AT&T network, went on sale May 15 at $199.

ORLANDO — Three Cobra products compatible with an iPhone app are now compatible with new Android apps.

The products are the Cobra Phone- Lynx, Cobra iRadar, and Cobra’s Tag Bluetooth tagging system.

PhoneLynx for Android, available May 1 at a suggested $59.99 with free Android app, is a Bluetooth-enabled device that lets consumers use their landline-phone system to originate and receive cellular calls through their Bluetooth- connected smartphone.

Orlando, Fla. - AnyData of Irvine, Calif., is launching the first in a line of tablets here at the CTIA convention.

The company's first tablet features Android OS, 7-inch touchscreen and availability in a Wi-Fi-only version and has a 1.25GHz dual-core processor. The a Wi-Fi/3G version is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and is operating in CDMA EV-DO Rev. A 800/1900 mode. The device will be available through "a leading Tier II U.S. network," the company said.

ORLANDO, FLA. – New tablets came in all sizes but in one basic shape (rectangular) and one basic operating system (Android 3.0) at the CTIA convention, where most new models sported 1GHz dual-core processors dominated and 4G cellular.

The new models featured 7-inch, 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch touchscreens.

Here’s what the suppliers revealed:

Acer Iconia Tab A501:  The Tab is Acer’s first 4G tablet, which will be available on during the second quarter for the AT&T network at a price to be announced.

ORLANDO, FLA. — Samsung will expand its U.S. tablet selection to three screen sizes with the addition of a model with 10.1-inch screen and a model with 8.9-inch screen to complement the company’s current 7-inch tablet.

The expanded selection of Galaxy Tabs represents a strategy of giving tablet users choices to suit their needs, said senior VP Omar Khan during a press conference here at the CTIA convention. Optimum screen size depends on the user and the user’s lifestyle, he said.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Wi-Fiequipped BlackBerry PlayBook tablet from Research In Motion (RIM) will be available April 19 in Best Buy, Office- Max, and Canada’s Future Shop.

The BlackBerry PlayBook with Wi-Fi will be available in three versions with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage at $499, $599 and $699, respectively.

WATERLOO, ONTARIO — The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will be able this summer to run BlackBerry smartphone apps and Android apps ported by their developers to run on the tablet’s OS, Research In Motion (RIM) announced.

Developers will be able to easily port their current apps to run on the BlackBerry Tablet OS because of a high degree of API compatibility, RIM said.

WASHINGTON — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) plans to impose more stringent regulations on fixed and mobile cellular-signal boosters to prevent interference with cellular carriers’ networks.

The commission proposed new technical standards for mobile (in-vehicle) and fixed (in-home and in-building) signal boosters. The FCC also wants to impose a series of obligations on users.

NEW YORK — The next version of the HTC Droid Incredible for CDMA carrier Verizon Wireless will be a global-capable model that operates in 3G mode in foreign 2.1GHz HSPA networks, TWICE learned.

It will join two other global Android smartphones in the Verizon lineup. Those are the Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global.
