NEW YORK — Escort sped into CE Week (all puns intended) with new detectors and an update to its notification-sharing network, as well as a special bundle for Apple Stores.
Under its Beltronics brand, Escort said it was replacing the Pro series with five new models. Detectors will range in price from $169 to $499, and as the price goes up, so do the detectors’ range improvement. Most of the models are compatible with the Escort Live notification-sharing network. They were scheduled to begin shipping in June.
This TWICE webinar, hosted by senior editor Alan Wolf, will take a look at what may be the hottest CE products at retail that will be sold during the all-important fourth quarter. Top technologies, market strategies and industry trends will be discussed with industry analysts and executives.
Traffic-camera alerts are overtaking the high end of the radar detector market and are creating an off- shoot market in stand-alone camera detectors that are poised to double in sales this year.
Traffic cameras — red-light cameras and speed cameras — that issue tickets costing more than $150 in many states are becoming a key tool of traffic enforcement. The cameras take photos of vehicles that run a red light or exceed the speed limit and then issue a ticket via the mail.
Chicago - In light of the recession, Cobra said it will develop a new line of radar detectors â one of Cobra's core product segments â that will hit lower price points, in response to consumer cutbacks in spending.
In addition, the company will introduce new CB radios starting this October and will enter the portable jumper cable market.
Cobra is introducing what it terms the first touchscreen radar detector, and Escort is showing a new speed-camera locator.
The Cobra XRS 9970G radar detector has a 1.5-inch full-color OLED screen that controls most of its functions. The XRS 9970G detects all radar and laser guns and alerts drivers of speed- and red-light traffic cameras. It also includes free updates to the traffic camera data base. The unit will be available in February at a suggested retail of $379.
