NEW YORK — iLuv is gearing up to ship an expanded selection of iPad-docking speaker systems and the industry’s first docking speaker system designed specifically for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablets.

iLuv plans late-July shipment of two new iPad-docking systems, shown in mockup form at International CES. They’ll join the iPad-docking iMM747, shipping since November in black, recently available in white, and re-priced to a suggested $99 from $149.

BALTIMORE — Definitive Technology plans at the CEDIA Expo to show a completely new bookshelf-speaker series, its first two wireless-ready subwoofers, and the first passive multichannel soundbars in the company’s XTR series of ultra-thin on-wall speakers for use with ultra-thin flat-panel LCD displays.

The previously announced XTR soundbars just began shipping. The bookshelf speakers ship in the fourth quarter. And the subs will surface in September.

LAS VEGAS — Meridian comes to International CES with an active floorstanding DSP speaker that departs from the company’s usual industrial design and reduces the company’s opening price point on a floorstanding speaker to $8,000/pair from $15,000/pair.

The company is also launching an upgraded Sooloos-controlling iPad app, which now performs all of the functions of the touchscreen that comes with the $7,500 Sooloos Control 15 music server but can be paired with Sooloos music servers priced down to $4,000.

LAS VEGAS — Spectra is expanding its Jensen- branded iPad-docking speaker line with at least two new models, launching its first stereo Bluetooth speaker, and launching an iPod/ iPhone-docking AC/DC boombox.

One new iPod/iPhone system is the company’s first with separate pivoting speakers.

The iPad-docking speaker systems include the $79-suggested JiPS-200i, which features retractable dock, aux in jack, stereo speakers, and remote. It will be available in the first quarter 2012.

NEW YORK — A modest recovery has taken hold in sales of iPod/iPhonedocking speaker systems, boosting dollar volume for the year to date following last year’s dollar decline, marketers told TWICE.

They expect the rebound to continue as an improving economy and secondtime purchases encourage step-up sales and as suppliers launch iPad-docking speaker systems to the market in the second half.

NEW YORK — New iPod/iPhonedocking speakers systems coming to market include a growing number of models at higher price points ranging from $179 to $499. More also sport free downloadable iPhone/iPod Touch apps to add speaker-system features, and one will be the first solar-powered iPod speaker.

Edifier: The China-based audio supplier will enter the U.S. market for the first time with five products, two of them iPod-docking speakers systems. The other three will be PC multimedia speakers.
